Most western countries have now banned the burning and burying of tyres as a form of disposal. The pollution from burning is obvious, however, many of the problems associated with using tyres in landfill, such as movement of the land many years after it has been filled, are not commonly known. It is a relatively simple process to remove the metal from tyres and recycle it, it is high quality metal and is quite valuable in market terms. Once the metal has been removed, DevourX can process the shredded tyres into crumbs under 250 micron in size by first freezing the rubber with liquid nitrogen. Rubber crumb at this size has a high resale value and can be used for a variety of purposes, including converting it into oil. Most tyre retailers now charge a fee per tyre for disposal. When coupled with the revenue from selling the rubber crumb and metal, recycling millions of tonnes of stockpiled tyres has the potential to become another lucrative market for DevourX. We expect the same process technology to be applicable to the recycling of plastic products. |
