In 2005 the cement industry produced 2.3 billion tonnes of cement.  The processing of aggregate materials into cement requires a number of grinding sequences.  Conventional grinding equipment is a high consumer of power, approximately 100 kilowatts per tonne is consumed in the production process, which represents 25% of the total production cost. 

High quality cement requires more finely ground product which is achieved by passing material through the grinding mills multiple times.  Each pass increases energy consumption, emissions and adds to the cost of the final product.

The DevourX machine can process a number of aggregate materials separately or simultaneously, thereby producing a number of efficiencies.  It reduces power consumption, emissions and eliminates a number of steps in the production sequence and, of course, reduces the cost of the final product.

The capital cost to build a conventional cement plant, which produces 2 million tonnes of cement per year, is approximately US$200 million.  Of the total costs, the milling and grinding equipment accounts for approximately $15 million, however, due to its substantial weight, necessitates a massive investment in foundations and civil engineering works.  Because of the size and nature of conventional grinding mills, such a plant is referred to as a high profile plant.

DevourX does not require substantial foundations or massive engineering works, it will operate on any flat surface and will reduce the footprint of such a plant by more than half.  Due to its unique operational features, the DevourX plant is a low profile plant which can be installed at a fraction of the cost of a conventional plant.  Preliminary estimates reveal that the installation of a DevourX plant would reduce the capital cost of plant construction by more than 30%, ongoing processing costs by a similar amount and reduce ongoing maintenance by more than 40%.

For existing installations, DevourX can be adapted to be integrated with existing equipment, thereby providing immediate benefits and substantial real cost reductions.
